Side effects: Temporary side effects may include mild fever, rash, tiredness, or swelling at the injection site. Some may experience mild joint pain or temporary swelling of the glands in the neck or cheeks.
Additional precautions: Avoid pregnancy for one month after vaccination, as it contains live but weakened viruses.
Before your appointment: Let your healthcare professional know if you are unwell, pregnant, or have a weakened immune system.
Risks caused by measles, mumps, and rubella:
- Measles: Can cause fever, rash, cough, and, in severe cases, pneumonia or brain inflammation.
- Mumps: Can lead to painful swelling of the salivary glands and, rarely, meningitis or hearing loss.
- Rubella: Usually mild but dangerous during pregnancy, as it can cause birth defects.
The MMR vaccine provides safe, long-lasting protection against all three diseases.
